Ringle welcomed back for First Friday StoryNight

PORT TOWNSEND — Quimper Storytelling Guild will welcome back Aimee Ringle as the year’s first featured teller for First Friday StoryNight from 7 to 9 tonight at the Port Townsend Friend’s Meetinghouse.

An international traveling storyteller, teacher and singer-songwriter living in Port Townsend, Ringle will share traditional stories of warmth and light for these dark times at the Friends’ Meetinghouse, 1841 Sheridan St., organizers said.

“There are parts of our lives and our community that need gentle time, cheery fires, good music and stories to thaw us back into life,” Ringle said.

Following her “Fire from Darkness” program will be up to six short stories by attendees who sign up on a first-come, first-served basis.

Master of ceremonies Perry Spring will conclude this celebration of the oral tradition with a story true to the evening’s theme.

When Ringle arrived in Port Townsend in 2009, she was already a master song leader and musician known. She joined a group for two years of “Living Myth, Living World” studies with local myth-singer Daniel Deardoff.

“It is surprising to the point of awe when in one artist we find the music, poetic, and mythic braided together … Aimee is one such artist. Don’t miss a chance to experience the magic that flows through her,” Deardoff said.

From 2013 through 2016, Ringle was host of First Friday StoryNight.

She has been an integral part of the Singing Alive! gatherings for seven years and co-leads workshops with Laurence Cole in many venues, including the last three years at the Oregon Country Fair.

In 2016, she co-created the album Golden Thread which can be found at theaimees.bandcamp.com/album/golden-thread.

The guild also hosts a monthly afternoon “Third Sunday StoryCrafting Story Swap” for aspiring and experienced tellers in the Port Townsend Library Learning Center, 1220 Lawrence St.; the next gathering is 2 p.m. Jan. 20.
