Rekindling of life theme for storytelling

PORT TOWNSEND — Allison Cox of Vashon Island will tell “The Quickening: Stories of the Rekindling of Life” during First Friday Story Night from 7 to 9 tonight.

Chris Gilbert of the Quimper Storytelling Guild will host the evening of stories at Friends Meetinghouse, 1841 Sheridan St. The suggested donation is $10.

Following Cox’s program will be an open mic session in which signed-up attendees share stories, songs and poetry.

“If you too are aching for spring, then join us for ancient and modern stories that are sure to warm your heart and bring the longed for light back into your life,” said Perry Spring of the Quimper Storytelling Guild, an organizer of the evening.

Gilbert will close the evening with a couple of tales and songs from his repertoire that reflect the evening’s theme.

Cox, who lives on Vashon Island, has performed internationally as a storyteller for more than 36 years.

She is the author-editor of the Healing Heart books, a founder and coordinator of the Healing Story Alliance and editor of their journal — and now serves as a board member of the Seattle Storytellers Guild.

More information is at her webpage at www.dancingleaves.com/allison.

First Friday Story Night (FFSN) is a monthly event that explores the art and ritual of the oral tradition, sharing old myths, folk tales and fairy tales, along with first person and modern stories.

After eight years at Better Living Through Coffee, the Friends’ Meetinghouse is providing FFSN its new home for the 2017-18 season with the Quimper Storytelling Guild carrying forward the program.

The featured teller March 2 will be Rebecca Hom of Olympia.
