Registration still open for Saturday’s Railroad Bridge run/walk

SEQUIM — Space is still available in the Railroad Bridge 5K/10K on Saturday.

The Railroad Bridge race, the second in the Run the Peninsula Series, will begin at 9:30 a.m. at Railroad Bridge Park, 2151 W. Hendrickson Road.

Participants can register for one race, for bundles of up to five races or for virtual races. To register, and for fees, see www. runthepeninsula.com.

More than 500 participants are expected in the race.

They will run or walk west on the Olympic Discovery Trail (ODT) before turning around at the 5K and 10K turnarounds and heading back east towards Railroad Bridge Park.

The title sponsors for the run are the Peninsula Daily News and the Sequim Gazette. Presenting sponsors are Olympic Medical Center. The city of Sequim has provided support.

Proceeds will go to several local organizations including the Peninsula Trails Coalition — volunteers who build and maintain the trail.

Participants in the Railroad Bridge run have right of way with Clallam County at these intersections:

• Heath Road and ODT.

• Carlsborg Road and ODT.

• Kitchen-Dick Road and ODT.

Drivers are asked to be prepared to stop at these intersections from 9:30 a.m. until 11 a.m. Saturday.

Volunteers are asked to arrive by 9 a.m. Water stations will be the west side of Carlsborg Road and on the west side of Kitchen-Dick Road.

To volunteer contact info@olympicdiscoverytrail.org or 360-775-5395.

The series is made up of five races spanning sections of the Olympic Discovery Trail from Port Townsend to Port Angeles.

All are organized by the Port Angeles Marathon Association, the same group that manages the annual North Olympic Discovery Marathon.

The Elwha Bridge run in February was the first in the series.

After Saturday’s run will be the Discovery Marathon in June, the Larry Scott Trail 5K/10K in October and Jamestown S’Klallam 5K/10K in December.
