Registration still open for OMCares May Virtual Run/Walk

The finish line is in sight.

Organizers of the OMCares May Virtual Run/Walk say they have raised about 88 percent of their $10,000 goal as participants run and walk a 5K, 10K, half-marathon, full marathon or relay race on their own sometime during the month of May, then post their results.

Money raised helps OMCares, an organization that provides emergency funds for employees who aren’t able to work.

There is still time to register for the event; register at runsignup.com/Race/WA/PortAngeles/OMCares.

To donate directly to OMCares, go to runsignup.com/Race/Donate/WA/PortAngeles/OMCares.

Free to all Olympic Medical Center employees, registration fee for others is $20.

All registered participants receive a vintage North Olympic Discovery Marathon shirt (T-shirt or long sleeve), finisher medal and race bib.

Shirts and medals are donated by the Port Angeles Marathon Association from its past events.

Participants can complete it all in one day or throughout the month.

OMCares is an organization whose mission is “supporting one another in our time of adversity.”

Started in November 1998, it is an employee grassroots organization independent of Olympic Medical Center that is supported entirely by employee contributions and fundraisers.

As of Sunday, 390 participants had registered for the May Virtual Run/Walk. To date, 111 participants have donated an additional $3,640.

The nonprofit Port Angeles Marathon Association, the same organization that organizes the North Olympic Discovery Marathon and the Run the Peninsula Race Series, has donated $5,850 in supplies, so that 100 percent of funds received go to OMCares.
