Regional speech contest set in Chimacum

CHIMACUM — A regional International Speech Contest is set for 6:30 tonight at the Tri-Area Community Center, 10 West Valley Road, in Chimacum.

The contest is the second round, with the first having been done at clubs in various communities on the Olympic Peninsula.

The winners from the clubs from those areas are coming together to compete in the contest expected to go on until 8:15 p.m.

“If you ever wanted to go to a Toastmaster meeting, this is the one to go to,” said said Bill Cohill of the Jefferson County Toastmasters. “It is free for the public.”

This is the first year that the regional round has been hosted on the North Olympic Peninsula, Cohill said.

“Usually it is in Poulsbo,” he said.

The International Speech Contest is one that Toastmasters clubs have around the world in all or almost all of the 142 countries they are in. It is estimated that more than 30,000 Toastmasters vie for the World Champion of Public Speaking title.

For more information, go online or visit a Toastmaster Club, which are dedicated to helping their members develop communication and leadership skills..
