RainShadow Chorale to perform Mozart’s Requiem

CHIMACUM — RainShadow Chorale will perform Mozart’s final composition, the Requiem, on Saturday and Sunday afternoon.

The concerts will be at 3 p.m. each day in the auditorium of Chimacum High School, 91 West Valley Road.

Tickets are a suggested donation of $20 per adult and $10 per student between the ages of 10 and 18. They can be purchased at Crossroads Music in Port Townsend, 2100 Lawrence St., or at the door.

The concert, nearly a year in the making, features soloists Sarah Moran, soprano; Ayla Favati, soprano; Joseph Muriello, tenor; and Gregg Lewis, bass.

The program will be conducted by RainShadow’s artistic director, Rebecca Rottsolk.

Rottsolk describes the legend behind Mozart’s Requiem as “music’s greatest genius [coming] to terms with the ultimate mystery of human existence.”

“Conducting this amazing masterwork with an exceptional choir and orchestra is both a thrill and an honor,” she said in a press release.

The program opens with four contemporary works that also attest to “music’s power to express and elevate the human spirit,” according to a press release.

Norwegian composer Ola Gjeilo’s 10-minute work, “Luminous Night of the Soul,” features choir, string quartet and piano. Pianist Lisa Lanza will accompany the song.
