Rainshadow Chorale concerts set tonight, Saturday

RainShadow Chorale will give two performances of “Let My Love Be Heard” tonight in Chimacum and Saturday in Port Townsend.

Tonight’s concert will be at the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, 45 Redeemer Way, Chimacum. Saturday’s concert will be at Trinity United Methodist Church, 609 Taylor St., Port Townsend.

Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for children ages 10 to 18. They are available at Crossroads Music in Port Townsend and will be offered at the door.

Celebration of life

Renewal and the celebration of life is the theme of the music chosen by Conductor Gil Seeley.

The concert will open with two pieces performed in tribute to the 450th birthday of Italian composer Claudio Monteverdi and continues with an operatic chorus by Mozart, a movement from Haydn’s “The Creation” and two Romantic pieces by Mendelssohn heralding spring.

Contemporary works

Other selections include contemporary works by American composers Shawn Kirchner and Jake Runestad on the meaning of love, a piece on a pastoral text by English poet William Blake and a piece written by Gil Seeley expressly for a RainShadow debut, titled “Morning Rabbit,” with text by Jane Kepner.

The concerts showcase two pieces for men, including “The Pasture” by Randall Thompson, and two pieces for women, including “Danny Boy.”

Several folk songs will include “Shenandoah.” The finale will be of Broadway show tunes.

Lisa Lanza will provide piano accompaniment.

The concert also includes special accompaniment on several numbers by guest artists Al Andalus.

Using the Arabic oud, flamenco guitar and Native American flute and drum, Al Andalus performs music that is meant to promote peace, tolerance and respect for people of all religions.
