Rainforest Run ends, but reunion begins; motorcycle rally set for this weekend in Forks

FORKS — The inaugural Rainforest Run Cycle Camp Family Reunion will be today through Sunday.

The gathering will be at Cycle Camp at 1071 Mora Road.

“Last year was our 10th and final year — of the big organization,” which included a poker run and T-shirts, said Billy Oldfield, 68, who has organized the runs with Bob Wishon, 64, since the beginning.

The two retired. But they decided to continue providing a gathering on the traditional third weekend of August.

“We have a lot of people who come every year,” Oldfield said. “That’s why we decided to carry it on but scale everything down.

“It’s going to be like a class reunion or an anniversary — whatever you want to call it,” Oldfield said.

No poker run is planned. No T-shirts will be provided. Music and food from vendors will be offered, although the live music has been cut to one band today and two performers on Saturday .

And it’s all free.

“All the rallies for 10 years have been free camping, free music,” Oldfield said.

He said that he and Wishon plan to organize the reunion every year, always on the third weekend of August.

Oldfield and Wishon live at Cycle Camp. Wishon is the owner and Oldfield the general manager.

On Saturday — the busiest day of the gathering — Oldfield has seen between 300 and 500 people participate. The public is invited. Those who arrive in cars will have to park outside the campground.

“It is a motorcycle event,” Oldfield said. “The only way you can get into Cycle Camp is on a motorcycle.”

Oldfield said he and Wishon enjoy the get-together.

“We’ve been bikers our whole lives,” he said. “We just have fun. We were responsible. We paid our mortgages and raised our kids. But we just never grew up.”
