Raincon this weekend in Forks

FORKS — The second annual RainCon will feature artists, comics, cosplay and games along with vendors, workshops and speakers during three days beginning today.

The convention will be at the Rainforest Arts Center, 35 N. Forks Ave.

Vendor booths for local comic shops and comics made in the Pacific Northwest are planned along with game tables set up to include roll-playing games, card games and board games.

Today

• 4 p.m. — Doors open; Gamerz Video Game Tournament begins.

• 5 p.m. — Game Run Number 1 Led by Red and Blue leader

• 6 p.m. — Pat Lowinger, archaeologist and historian, Halmyris update and current project aimed at unearthing new insights into the Roman ancient past.

• 7 p.m. — Game Run Number 2.

• 8 p.m. — Movie: “Star Trek 2; The Wrath of Khan,” rated PG.

• 10 p.m. — Late movie: “Army of Darkness,” rated R.

• Midnight — Witching Hour.

• 1 a.m. Saturday — Cleanup and lockdown.

Saturday

• 10 a.m. — Doors open.

• 10:30 a.m. — Movie: “Batman & Bill,” all ages, about the co-creator of Batman; Game Run Number 1.

• 11 a.m. — Gamerz: Magic The Gathering Booster Draft Tourney, $15 buy-in.

• Noon — Game Run Number 2 — “While we have Time” edition.

• 1 p.m. — “DeForest Kelley Up Close and Personal: a Harvest of Memories from the Fan who Knew Him Best,” Kris M. Smith, author and personal friend of the actor who played Doctor McCoy on Star Trek.

• 2 p.m. — Cake for Cans Edward’s Birthday Food Drive — Forks Food Bank. Bring a non-perishable food donation for a piece of cake.

• 2:30 p.m. — “So you want to own a nerd store (or you’re just curious),” Drew Schwab, owner of Anime Kat in Port Angeles.

• 3:30 p.m. — Game Rush 3 Drama, Legacy & Betrayal; bonus: Magical Kingdom of Yeld RPG with Jake Richmond.

• 6 p.m. — Gamerz: MTG Commander Tournament; second annual RainCon Cosplay Contest.

• 7 p.m. — Movie: “Aquaman,” rated PG-13.

• 9:30 p.m. — Late movie: “Alien,” rated R.

• 11:30 p.m. — Shutdown early for planned power outage.

Sunday

• 10 a.m. — Doors open; Game Run Number 1.

• 11 a.m. — Gamerz: MTG Booster Draft Tourney, $15, or Modern Tournament.

• Noon — Game Run Number 2 Epic Strategy!

• 3:30 p.m. — Closing ceremony recognizing sponsors, volunteers and vendors.

• 4 p.m. — Doors close.
