Railroad Bridge Run expected to draw hundreds Saturday

SEQUIM — The Railroad Bridge 5K/10K, the second in the Run the Peninsula Series, will begin at 9:30 a.m. Saturday.

It will start and end at the Railroad Bridge Park, 2151 W. Hendrickson Road.

Participants can register for one race, for bundles of up to five races or for virtual races. To register, and for fees, see www. runthepeninsula.com.

More than 500 participants are expected in the race. They will run or walk west on the Olympic Discovery Trail (ODT) before turning around at the 5K and 10K turnarounds and heading back east towards Railroad Bridge Park.

The title sponsors for the run are the Peninsula Daily News and the Sequim Gazette. Presenting sponsors are Olympic Medical Center. The city of Sequim has provided support.

Proceeds will go to several local organizations including the Peninsula Trails Coalition — volunteers who build and maintain the trail.

All the races are organized by the Port Angeles Marathon Association, the same group that manages the annual North Olympic Discovery Marathon.

The Elwha Bridge run in February was the first in the series.

After Saturday’s run will be the Discovery Marathon in June, the Larry Scott Trail 5K/10K in October and Jamestown S’Klallam 5K/10K in December.
