Races, oysters offered in Quilcene on Sunday

QUILCENE — The Quilcene Oyster Half Marathon, 10K and 5K Races will offer beautiful sights and tasty oysters on Sunday.

Online registration ends today for all three races, which will begin and end at the Linger Longer Stage at the Quilcene Historical Museum, 151 Columbia St. To register, go to quilcene halfmarathon.wordpress.com.

Fees if registering online are $30 for adults and $25 for students 18 and younger for the 5K; $40 for adults and $35 for students for the 10K; and $60 for both adults and students for the half-marathon.

Registration on the day of the race will cost $5 more in each category.

Awards will be presented and each runner will be entitled to a free sample of oysters.

The half marathon is certified and sanctioned by USATF (USA Track & Field).

It will begin at 9 a.m. — an hour earlier for walkers — and will wend up and down hills, through forests and along the Little Quilcene River, offering views of the Olympic Mountains.

The 10K, which also is USATF-certified and -sanctioned, will begin at 10 a.m., as will the 5K, a run or walk along Quilcene Bay that welcomes walkers and baby strollers.

The event will benefit Quilcene-Brinnon Dollars for Scholars, which raises funds for scholarships.

In addition on Sunday, tours will be offered of the restored Worthington Park Mansion at the museum in its inaugural opening.

Joy in Mudville will perform a free outdoor concert at the Linger Longer Theater from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
