A film on Race to Alaska, dances, a garden walk and an ice cream social are among activities coming up this weekend on the North Olympic Peninsula.
PORT TOWNSEND
• The film “The Race to Alaska” will be screened today, Saturday, Sunday this weekend and Wednesday and Thursday next week.
The film is showing at The Rose Theatre, 235 Taylor St., Port Townsend. It will be in the Starlight Room at 4 p.m. each day and in the Rosebud Cinema at 7 p.m. each day.
The 2020 documentary explores the people who have accepted the challenges inherent in racing from Port Townsend to Ketchikan, Alaska, with only wind and human power. The 2022 edition of the race begins Monday.
The Rose requires proof of vaccination for all guests and masks are required in the lobby, restrooms and concession areas.

• The 2022 Seventy48 human-powered watercraft race will begin at 7 p.m. today in Tacoma, 70 miles from Port Townsend, and end when participants ring the bell at City Dock in Port Townsend. Racers must complete the race within 48 hours of beginning it.
The Northwest Maritime Center plans an awards ceremony at Sunday’s Race to Alaska Ruckus, which precedes the start of the Race to Alaska on Monday.
• Race to Alaska teams will embark on Stage 1, “The Proving Ground,” from Port Townsend at 5 a.m. Monday.
They will have 48 hours to cross the Strait of Juan de Fuca and make it to Victoria. On Thursday at noon, Stage 2, “To the Bitter End,” will begin as human-powered vessels start the 710-mile trek from Victoria to Alaska.
• Bill Evans Dance Concerts are set at JFK Hall in Fort Worden at 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday.

• An exhibit featuring four regional artists, 4×4: Art by Design, is on view at the Northwind Art Jeanette Best Gallery at 701 Water St., through Aug. 7.
The exhibit features works by Brian O’Neill of Bellingham; Tim Celeski and Leslie Newman, both of Indianola; and David Owen Hastings of Sequim. An artists’ talk and meet is set for 1 p.m. Saturday.
• The Salish Coast Elementary’s life skills program will perform “The Wizard of Oz” at 8:30 a.m. today at the school at 1637 Grant St., in Port Townsend.
• Cindy Hansen, the education and advocacy coordinator for the Orca Network, will present “Preventing Extinction – the Story of Southern Resident Orcas” at 3 p.m. Sunday through the Port Townsend Marine Science Center.

PORT ANGELES
• The Blooming Artists Exhibit will be on display from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursdays through Sundays beginning this Thursday and continuing through July 3 st the Port Angeles Fine Arts Center, 1203 E. Lauridsen Blvd.
The artwork by more than 250 students includes pottery, print-making, collage, watercolor and painting, as well as flower pressing.
• Master gardeners Bob Cain, Laurel Moulton and Audreen Williams will lead a Second Saturday Garden Walk at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Fifth Street Community Garden, 328 E. Fifth St.
This month’s topics will include principles of Integrated Plant Management, proper watering and water conservation.
• Joe Michaels will call a contra dance at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Black Diamond Community Hall, 1942 Black Diamond Road, where music will be provided by David Rivers and Joey Gish.
A free dance lesson will be offered at 7 p.m. to those who have paid admission to the dance. The dance starts at 7:30 p.m. Requested donation is $10 per person, $5 for youths younger than 18 years.
All attendees must show proof of vaccination and wear N95/KN95 masks while inside the hall; masks will be available at the door.
SEQUIM
• The Sequim Prairie Grange will host an ice cream social from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday at the grange hall, 290 Macleay Road.
Ice cream will cost $7 per order; proceeds will help with medical expenses for Kash Elliott, the grandson of Carla and Vern Madison.
• A watercolor and water-based media painting exhibit, created by members of Peninsula Art Friends, is on display in Sequim in the Karen Kuznek-Reese Gallery at the Sequim Civic Center, 152 W. Cedar St., through June 28.
• The Sequim City Band’s second concert of its 2022 Concerts at the James summer season kicks off at 3 p.m. Sunday at the James Center for the Performing Arts with Encore — a new, small ensemble of the Peninsula Singers — singing the national anthem.
Themed “A Little Water Music,” the concert is centered around water in its many forms. With its outdoor stage and lawn seating, the James Center, 350 N. Blake Ave., is the band’s summer venue.
