Quilcene Oyster Run offers stunning vistas

QUILCENE — The Quilcene Oyster Half Marathon, 10K and 5K Races will offer stunning vistas of sea and forest and tastes of oysters while raising money for worthy causes Sunday.

Registration for the races the day of the event will begin at 8 a.m. at Worthington Park, next door to the Quilcene Museum at 151 E. Columbia Ave. Packets can be picked up at the Linger Longer Stage there. The finish line also will be at Worthington Park.

Fees the day of the race are $65 for adults and $60 for those 18 and younger for the half marathon, $45 for adults and $35 for youngsters for the 10K, and $35 for adults and $25 for young people for the 5K.

The half marathon is certified and sanctioned by USATF (USA Track &Field). It will begin at 9 a.m. — an hour earlier for walkers — and will wend up and down hills through forests and along the Little Quilcene River, offering views of the Olympic Mountains.

The 10K, which also is USATF-certified and -sanctioned, will begin at 10 a.m., as will the 5K, a run or walk along Quilcene Bay that welcomes walkers and baby strollers.

The event will benefit Quilcene-Brinnon Dollars for Scholars, which raises funds for scholarships, and Count Me in for Quilcene, a nonprofit organization providing support for community projects.

Runners are entitled to one free sample of oysters — and those 21 or older also can get one free beer.

Medals will be awarded.
