Family performer and teaching artist Andy Furgeson of Red Yarn will host special puppet-building workshops at three North Olympic Library System libraries and perform at the Jefferson County Library next week.
Furgeson will be at the Forks Library at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, at the Port Angeles Library at 4 p.m. Wednesday and at the Sequim Library at 1 p.m. Thursday.
Registration is required for all workshops.
Participants will build elaborate animal puppets from paper, foam, fabric and yarn and will learn puppetry techniques to put their new puppets to use.
All workshops are free, but class size is limited and pre-registration is required.

All materials will be provided. The workshop is recommended for ages 8 and older.
Furgeson will bring his songs and puppetry to the Jefferson County Library for a show set at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.
All ages are invited to the show at the library at 620 W. Cedar Ave. in Port Hadlock
Red Yarn depicts American folklore in quilted backdrops and his “Critters” — handpuppets — are introduced as the show progresses.

In addition to his successful career performing under the name Red Yarn, Furgeson has been teaching music, puppetry and art in elementary and preschools for over a decade.
He was Young Audiences of Oregon and Southwest Washington’s Teaching Artist of the Year in 2015.
The workshops are a highlight of the 2018 Summer Reading Program.
This summertime celebration, which encourages children to keep reading during the summer break from school, features a reading challenge and a multitude of events for all ages.
The 2018 Summer Reading Program started June 16 and will run through Aug. 18.
The Forks Library is at 171 S. Forks Ave. The Port Angeles Library is at 2210 S. Peabody St., and the Sequim Library is at 630 N. Sequim Ave. The North Olympic Library System also oversees the Clallam Bay Library at 16990 state Highway 112.
