Prize-winning authors featured at Northwind Series in Port Townsend

PORT TOWNSEND — On Thursday, the Northwind Reading Series will feature award-winning authors Rae Armantrout and Rikki Ducornet reading from their books at 7 p.m. Thursday.

The readings will be in Northwind Arts Center, 701 Water St. The suggested donation is $5.

Armantrout’s most recent books, “Versed,” “Money Shot,” “Just Saying,” “Itself,” “Partly: New and Selected Poems,” and “Entanglements,” were published by Wesleyan University Press.

In 2010, “Versed” won the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry and The National Book Critics Circle Award. Armantrout was the recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship in 2007.

Her poems have appeared in many anthologies and journals including “Poetry,” “The Nation,” “The New Yorker,” “The Paris Review,” “Postmodern American Poetry: a Norton Anthology,” “The Open Door: 100 Poems, 100 Years of Poetry Magazine,” and several editions of the yearly anthology, “The Best American Poetry.”

Her books have been translated in Spanish, French, Italian, and German editions.

She is recently retired from University of California — San Diego where she was professor of poetry and poetics. While at UCSD, she co-taught a course called Poetry for Physicists with physicist Brian Keating. She now lives in the Seattle area.

Ducornet is the author of nine novels, three collections of short fiction, two books of essays and five books of poetry.

She has received both a Lannan Literary Fellowship and the Lannan Literary Award For Fiction. She has received the Bard College Arts and Letters award and, in 2008, an Academy Award in Literature.

Her work is widely published abroad. Recent exhibitions of her paintings include the solo show Desirous at the Pierre Menard Gallery in Cambridge, Mass., 2007, and the group shows: O Reverso Do Olhar in Coimbra, Portugal, 2008; El Umbral Secreto at the Museo de la Solidaridad Salvador Allende, Santiago, Chile, 2009; Las Llavas del Deseo, Fundacion Camaleonart, National Library, Costa Rica, 2016; and La Chasse A l’Objet Du Désir, Galerie Espace, Quebec, 2014.

She has illustrated books by Jorge Luis Borges, Robert Coover, Forrest Gander, Kate Bernheimer, Joanna Howard and Anne Waldman among others.

Her collected papers including prints and drawings are in the permanent collection of the Ohio State University Rare Books and Manuscripts Library.

Her art work is in the permanent collections of the Museo de la Solidaridad Salvador Allende, Santiago, Chile; the McMaster University Museum, Ontario, Canada; and The Biblioteque Nationale, Paris. She is one of the artists featured in the upcoming Surrealist Encyclopedia, published in London by Bloomsbury Books.
