Prepare to be sucked in: Musical spoof of Dracula opens tonight

PORT ANGELES — “Dracula: The Musical?,” a spoof of the classic horror tale, opens this weekend for a three-week run at the Port Angeles Community Playhouse.

The Port Angeles Community Players production will be performed at 7:30 tonight and Saturday night, Tuesday, Friday, May 5 and May 6, 9, 12 and 13, as well as at 2 p.m. Sunday, Saturday, May 7 and May 14, at the playhouse, 1235 E. Lauridsen Blvd.

Tickets are $15 for adults, $8 for students and children. On Tuesdays, seats can be reserved in advance for the regular price, or unsold seats will be $8 at the door.

Tickets are available in advance at pacommunity players.com, where you can choose your seat, or purchase them in person at Stage Right Vintage, 106 N. Laurel St., Port Angeles.

In the play, directed by Mark Lorentzen, the inhabitants of a madhouse are putting on a musical. The book, music and lyrics are by Rick Abbot.

“I first saw this production as a kid in Reno, Nev.,” Lorentzen said. “It was one of the most hilarious shows I’ve ever experienced. On top of that, it’s actually a really good musical.”

Lorentzen assembled the cast of Mindy Gelder as Nellie Norton, Luci Barrera as Mina Seward, Nicholas Fazio as Dr. Sam Seward, Anna Pederson as Bubu Padoop, Ken Winters as Boris Renfield, Benjamin Heintz as Dr. Van Helsing, Lydia Wilhelm as Sophie Seward and Jeremy Pederson as Count Dracula.
