SEQUIM — Violinist Kate Powers will return to Music Live with Lunch on Tuesday at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 525 N. Fifth Ave.
Tickets are $12 and include a lasagna luncheon. They can be purchased at the door or in advance between 9 a.m. and noon Monday through Thursday at the church office, or call 360-683-4862.
Powers and guitarist David Isaac Rivers will play fiddle tunes together at noon, embracing Scottish and Irish traditions, bluegrass and old-time music.
Some of the songs they’ll play include “All of Me” by Gerald Marks, “Ashokan Farewell” by Jan Ungar and Powers’ “The Craters at Pothole Lake/Frank’s Reel.”
Powers was introduced to the violin in 2010 through a scholarship from the Washington Old Time Fiddlers. Six years later, she continues to teach herself fiddle and takes classical lessons with Ronald Patterson in Seattle.
She’s played a wide range of venues and events ranging from solos with the Port Angeles Symphony to performing at state and county fairs to talent shows.
Powers writes and arranges much of the music she plays. After graduating from high school, she plans to attend the Berklee College of Music.
River formed Abby Mae &the Homeschool Boys in 2009 and led the group to play all over the Northwest. He also played regularly with Irish fiddler Erin Hennessey before leading folk-worship hymns at Calvary Chapel in Sequim.
Music Live with Lunch was founded by Lou and Bill Yandell more than 25 years ago as a musical outreach to the community, with ticket proceeds supporting local and regional concerns.
Concerts run the third Tuesday of the month through May followed by lunch.
