Port Townsend Symphony Orchestra to perform February concert Sunday

PORT TOWNSEND — The Port Townsend Symphony Orchestra will present its February concert at 2 p.m. Sunday.

The free concert is in the auditorium at Chimacum High School, 91 West Valley Road.

The orchestra’s dress rehearsal, at 7 p.m. Friday, is also open to the public.

Maestro Tigran Arakelyan will direct the orchestra in a program that features the Festive Overture by William Grant Still, Symphony No. 2 by Alexander Borodin and Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante for four winds.

The Mozart Sinfonia features orchestra principals Anne Krabill, oboe; Kevin Fay, clarinet; Dave Krabill, bassoon; and Bruce Kelley, French horn.

Anne Krabill was the principal oboe for the Atlantic Symphony in Halifax and taught at Dalhousie University.

She is the principal oboe with the Port Angeles Symphony and has been principal with the Northwest Symphony, the Bainbridge Symphony and the Peninsula Dance Company.

Fay has been the principal clarinet of the Cascade Symphony, the Northwest Mahler Festival and the Northwest Symphony Orchestra.

He has also performed with the Rainier Symphony, the Octava Chamber Orchestra, Philharmonia Northwest and the Thalia Symphony.

Kelley was principal at Eastside Symphony in Redmond and is currently acting principal at Port Angeles Symphony.

Kelley is a co-founder of the Northwest Mahler Festival and was the featured soloist during the orchestra’s 2022 performance of “Artik Concerto for Horn and String Orchestra” by Armenian American composer Alan Hovhaness.

Dave Krabill was the principal bassoon for the Atlantic Symphony in Halifax, taught at Dalhousie University and frequently played for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation.
