Port Townsend senior living community sets Alzheimer’s ‘Longest Day’ fundraiser

PORT TOWNSEND — Victoria Place, a senior living community at 491 Discovery Road, invites the public to a fundraising party for the Alzheimers Association from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday.

Free barbecue will be served. Live music will be provided by The Alternators — fiddler Peter Evasic and accordionist George Radebaugh will perform upbeat Zydeko and Gypsy jazz.

Donations will be accepted in collection jars placed around the building.

The chef at Victoria Place will serve a barbecue spread for all to enjoy on the beginning of summer and the longest day of the year.

The community encourages caregivers of Alzheimer’s patients to come with their loved ones to enjoy the food and music.

Nationwide, numerous events are happening on this date to raise funds for the fight against Alzheimer’s disease.

The Alzheimer’s Association has named the campaign The Longest Day and the slogan is: “Show your love and help end Alzheimer’s disease.”

Alzheimer’s disease is the sixth-leading cause of death in the United States. Currently, it cannot be prevented, cured or even slowed.

The Longest Day is all about showing love for all those affected by this devastating disease.

Donations help advance the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer’s Association and reach the vision of a world without Alzheimer’s disease.
