Port Townsend Rhody coronation set

Saturday event takes place at Chimacum High School

CHIMACUM — The 85th Rhododendron Festival Coronation will begin at 3 p.m. Saturday.

The crowning of the Rhody queen and her two princesses will be at the auditorium at the Chimacum High School, 91 West Valley Road. Doors will open at 2:30 p.m. Admission will be $5 per person.

The program also will feature the crowning of 2020 Rhody Festival junior royalty and senior royalty.

This year’s candidates are Brigette Palmer, Hailey Hirschel and Jenessah Seebergoss.

Here is a brief summary of information about them.

Palmer, a junior at Chimacum High School, is the daughter of Aubrey and Savannah Palmer.

Her interests include cheerleading, horses, 4-wheeling, baking and fly fishing.

Her plans are to finish her two-year course at West Sound Tech and continue her education to earn a master esthetician license.

Hirschel, a senior at Chimacum High School, is the daughter of Belynda Hirschel.

Her interests include singing, reading and her dog Sky.

Her plans include training in cosmetology, as a mechanic or as a chef.

Seebergoss, a junior at Port Townsend High School, is the daughter of Blaine and Sonya Goss.

Her interests include volleyball, band, drawing and cheerleading.

Her plans are to study abroad in college and to become an animator.

The 2020 Rhody Festival, which has the theme of “Stop and Smell the Rhodies,” will be held the third weekend in May, culminating with the Grand Parade at 1 p.m. May 16.

Grand Parade applications are available for download on the Rhody Festival website at rhody festival.org and are due by May 6.
