Port Townsend Public Library to host presentation on Western Flyer

PORT TOWNSEND — The Port Townsend Public Library will host a presentation about the fishing vessel Western Flyer at 7 p.m. Thursday.

The free lecture will stream at https://us02web.zoom.us/j/81068301467.

Western Flyer Foundation members Susan Shillinglaw, Chris Chase and Emily Gottlieb will discuss the past, present and future of the historic vessel.

The Western Flyer carried John Steinbeck and Ed Ricketts on a six-week journey to the Sea of Cortez in 1940. The pair published a narrative account of their trip, along with a catalogue of marine invertebrates they found along the way, in the 1941 book “Sea of Cortez.”

The vessel is being restored in Port Townsend by the Western Flyer Foundation.
