PORT TOWNSEND — Singer-songwriter Dave Hulegaard of Port Townsend will release his new single, Silver Stars, today, Friday, Aug. 14.
When he performed live as Twelve Days in June at Manresa Castle in February, it was the first time he’d taken the stage in nearly 24 years — “something he thought he’d never do again following a humiliating gig in 1996 that completely shattered his confidence,” according to a press release.
He next performed at Cellar Door a couple weeks later. After that, the COVID-19 pandemic cut off his live performances.
So he recorded.
Hulegaard quarantined in his home studio and recorded guitar and vocals for a handful of songs. He then collaborated with several studio musicians across the country, sending files back and forth over the internet to complete the songs.
The single is, he says, his “unabashed love letter to the ’90s.”
A video has been released to support the single.
Contributing musicians to this track include bassist John Thomasson (Little Big Town, Matt Nathanson), drummer Brandon Dickert (Save Ferris), and cellist/string arranger Yoed Nir (Regina Spektor, Paul Banks).
