PORT TOWNSEND — The fine art of illustration, jewelry and watercolors are among the attractions during the Port Townsend Gallery Walk.
During the free event, which occurs the first Saturday of every month from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., art galleries and venues in the downtown waterfront district show off the work of local artists while encouraging participants to explore the many nooks and crannies of the town’s historic center.
• Red Dragonfly, 211 Taylor St., Suite B2, will focus on The Art of Illustration during Saturday’s art walk.
During the month of January, the gallery in Port Townsend’s Undertown, will highlight work from illustrator artists including Kira Mardikes, Tim Warden, Inge Vandormael, Gin Grimsdottir and Kelby Russell.
“Many artists get their start not from fine arts degrees in painting and sculpture, but from working in fields like graphic design, illustration, tattoo art and even creating images for graphic novels,” said Peter Messerschmidt, who co-owns the gallery with his wife, Sarah Nash.

• Gallery 9, 1012 Water St., will showcase artisan jewelry by Roberto Ribeiro and watercolors by Sandra Smith-Poling.
The artists will be at the gallery from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.
The artwork will be on exhibit throughout January.
Silver jeweler Roberto Ribeiro welcomes in another year at Gallery 9 with his new collection, “Winter White.”
Ribeiro, born and raised in Brazil, learned the basics of silversmithing more than 20 years ago and his work now includes original techniques such as hand-woven chains crafted on a “knitting spool” using a crochet hook.
The new artisanal pieces feature pearls, white topaz, cubic zirconia and silver.
The collection features the artist’s signature spirals, curves and braids, along with new, original snowflake designs.
Smith-Poling shares her love of Alaskan culture in recent paintings from her regular working trips to the Nuuciq Native Spirit Camp and Chenega Bay in Prince William Sound in Alaska.
Also featured in this show are scenes of Port Townsend, Germany and Cornwall, England.

• The Port Townsend Gallery, 715 Water St., during Gallery Walk will feature an all-member show, including continuing the exhibit of jewelry that was installed in December.
The work of jewelers Stephanie Oliveira, Addy Thornton, Andrea Guarino-Slemmons, Caroline Littlefield and Shirley Moss are on exhibit.
This month, the gallery also will have an all-members show. The co-op has 25 members.
Oliveira works in silver and gold. Thornton’s work includes dichroic glass and gemstones set in silver.
Guarino-Slemmons uses stones, glass and shells from beaches in her jewelry.
Littlefield is showing pendants and earrings made of precious metal clay along with forged silver Celtic pins and hair pins.
Moss specializes in handmade chains.
