PORT LUDLOW — Nature in the raw is the point of Steve Deligan’s photography.
His work can be seen at the Bay Club, 120 Spinnaker Place in Port Ludlow, during the month of May.
Deligan began his exploration of photography more than 30 years ago. Taking pictures helped him focus on what really mattered in life, he said.
Over the years, Steve has moved from film to digital photography.
“I try to focus on the essence of what I see and make the image as minimal as possible to create a feeling that what you’re seeing is exactly how it’s supposed to be.”
Since retiring from the teaching profession, Deligan’s desire to share his photography has become forefront. While much of his work portrays the beauty of Pacific Northwest, he has also captured Hawaii’s charm.
He said he hopes “the images help viewers find some peace and comfort in these turbulent times.”

The Port Ludlow Art League is featuring Gail Larson as artist of the month and Mary Lynn Laker as jeweler of the month.
Larson has worked in oils, watercolor and collage for many years. She is a signature member of the National Collage Society.
She said she finds acrylic and collage the best media for expressing herself in the abstract. Larson generally works with a limited palette, selecting appropriate colors for the theme, giving design, value, and movement as her main focus.
Laker has been creating art most of her life.
“Due to her curious nature, she always wants to know how things fit together,” she said in a press release.
“This inquisitiveness opened the door to using different materials such as silver, bronze, gems, felt, crystals, glass, and stones in her jewelry designs.

The Gallery is located next to the Sound Community Bank at the corner of Oak Bay Road and Osprey Ridge Drive in Port Ludlow.

Guest speaker
Collage artist Harold Nelson will be the league’s online guest speaker at 1 p.m. May 18.
The program will feature a conversation with Nelson, examples of his work and insights into his process, methods, and materials.
Marthasburgh Across the Water by Harold Nelson illustrates the work he will discuss as a guest speaker to the Port Ludlow Art League.
“His process is gradual, intuitive and improvisational, resulting in dynamic, intriguing and lively works of art,” said Patricia Webber of the league.
“The challenge of each collage is to assemble the elements into a cohesive piece,” Webber said. “Vibrant color is very important to Harold, so he makes sure the colors are balanced and harmonious. As a result, each collage is packed with enough visual interest to be enjoyed every time it’s viewed.”

Spring Art Fair
The Port Ludlow Bay Club will host the 2022 Spring Art Fair, sponsored by the Port Ludlow Art League, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 28.
Artwork from 23 artists will be available. Work includes jewelry, ceramics, paintings, photographs, textiles, woodworking, baskets, cards and books.
Proceeds from gift baskets will help build the Port Ludlow Art League Scholarship Fund.
Baked goods with coffee or tea can be enjoyed on the Bay Club’s terrace.
