Port Ludlow Art League to raffle off paintings

Proceeds to benefit scholarship fund

PORT LUDLOW — The Port Ludlow Art League will raffle off two paintings that a group of artists created collaboratively for the league’s scholarship fund during May.

The abstract art critique group, hosted by Patricia Weber, circulated two 24-inch by 18-inch canvases from artist to artist to create abstract paintings using acrylics and collage.

The group has donated the finished products to the art league’s scholarship fund for graduating seniors from local high schools.

The paintings will be raffled off and the winning tickets will be selected on Monday, May 31.

Raffle tickets are $5 for one ticket and $10 for three tickets.

They are available for purchase at the Port Ludlow Art League Gallery at the corner of Oak Bay Road and Osprey Ridge Drive in Port Ludlow.

Participating artists were Ann Bernard, Dana Durasoff, Ann Gagnier, Joie Hyde, Georganne Muse, Carol Nielsen, Pamela Raine, Diane Walker and Patricia Webber.

Blue Dawn will be raffled off for the Port Ludlow Art League’s scholarship fund.

The group was selected as the league’s artists of the month

The artists also have individual works of art at Sound Community Bank next door to the gallery as well as online at www.port ludlowart.org.

The Creating During COVID exhibit is of work done by the members of the abstract critique group, which has been meeting online every week for critique and camaraderie.

“I’m pleased to have been able to connect with dear friends, even if only virtually,” said artist Georganne Muse.

“They kept me connected. Their feedback and suggestions inspired my creativity.”

Hyde said she also found the weekly critiques helped her stay in touch with other artists and move her art forward in new directions.

The league’s jeweler of the month is Mary Lynn Laker.

Laker designs necklaces, earrings and bracelets in a wide variety of styles and materials including silver, bronze, gems, felt, crystals and stones.

Not one to repeat her designs, she has fashioned crows, fish, kimonos, hearts, Buddhas, circles and squares into a collection of jewelry.

In addition to jewelry, Laker also paints with beeswax (encaustic) not just in paintings but also in dimensional works. Recently, she’s added making artist paint brushes to her repertoire.

Her work will be on display at the Port Ludlow Art League Gallery and at www.portludlowart.org.

The Port Ludlow Art League Gallery is open from noon to 4 p.m. every Thursday and Friday.

League artists also have an online show for May, “Things In Motion.”

“When you think of things in motion as an art theme, your initial idea might be capturing the movement of a human body doing sports or dancing,” according to a league press release.

“While this would be a common notion, consider other types of motion, such as machines, cars, boats, trains, birds, animals, water, trees, weather or fire.

“This month, members of the Port Ludlow Art League feature artwork motivated by the infinite variety of things in motion.”

To inquire about purchasing artwork, email info@portludlowart.org to make a sales appointment with the artist.
