Port Ludlow Art League to host reception Wednesday

PORT LUDLOW — The Port Ludlow Art League will host a reception for Cynthia LeRouge from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday.

The reception will begin in the lobby at Sound Community Bank, 9500 Oak Bay Road, then move to the league’s adjacent gallery at 5 p.m.

LeRouge works with mixed media to create artwork using fiber, needle arts, encaustic and multiple forms of surface design.

“I aim to achieve multi-textural connections among multiple media and juxtapose natural and synthetic materials in my art,” LeRouge said. “I think of my artwork like making gumbo with a bit of spice thrown in.”

She attributes her appreciation of texture, color and diverse assemblages to her youth in New Orleans and the influence of Cajun culture from her grandparents.

Jolie Maki uses traditional metal-making techniques to create jewelry from gold, silver, copper and bronze. She has been exploring the use of color using torch-fired enamels and interesting shapes to create more color than typical stones.

Maki has a bachelor of fine arts degree in metal arts from the University of Washington.

LeRouge’s mixed media art and Maki’s jewelry will be on display in the gallery from noon to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays throughout October.
