PORT LUDLOW — The Port Ludlow Art League will host a reception for Julie Paton from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday.

The reception will begin in the lobby at Sound Community Bank, 9500 Oak Bay Road, then move to the league’s adjacent gallery at 5 p.m.

Paton began her career as an illustrator at Hallmark Cards, where she gained experience designing paper products.

Paton had access to an in-house art supply library and could select any medium, brush, paper or board surface for her work.

Once she decided to pursue a career as a freelance artist, she continued to design greeting cards and expanded into the home decor market.

Paton paints with watercolors on paper or illustration board and then scans the images into Photoshop to create templates for dinnerware, glass savers, trivets, coasters, scarves, greeting cards and paper party sets.

Paton is now painting for the fine art market.

Paton’s art will be on display in the gallery from noon to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays throughout November.

The gallery also will host a Holiday Open House from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday with seasonal refreshments for shoppers and a chance to win a $200 gift certificate from the gallery.
