Port Ludlow Art League resumes gallery, exhibit schedules

PORT LUDLOW — The Port Ludlow Art League will resume art exhibits at the Port Ludlow Resort and Inn as well as opening the Port Ludlow Art League Gallery from noon to 4 p.m. Thursday and Friday.

“We’re delighted to continue our art exhibits at the Inn and the Gallery for both our artists and the community,” said Pamela Raine, president of the Port Ludlow Art League, in a press release.

“Whether you’re treating yourself to artwork that brings you joy or simply picking up a hand-painted card, the Gallery offers safe and convenient shopping,” she said.

“The Port Ludlow Art League’s 6-inch by 6-inch panels of original artwork continue to be a hit with the community because the proceeds provide college scholarships to graduating seniors who qualify from both Chimacum and Quilcene high schools.”

The league’s artist of the month in April is Shirley Bomgaars, who lately has been working with watercolors, acrylics and mixed media — “always leavened with a little bit of whimsy,” organizers said.

Her subject matter ranges from old toys, pets and wildlife — or simply her own perspective.

The league’s jeweler of the month is Judy Danberg, a lifelong seamstress who moved to Port Ludlow more than 25 years ago and discovered a second outlet for her creative endeavors after taking an introductory jewelry making class at the Bay Club.

She takes raw materials and turns them into wearable art, particularly enjoying incorporating antique beads into her jewelry designs.

Over the years, Danberg has gathered treasures from her international travel and the famous Gem and Jewelry Show in Tucson, Ariz. Some of Danberg’s treasures include antique glass beads from Italy, 250-year- old trade beads from Alaska, 300-year-old tiny gold beads from France and vintage crystals from Austria.

Bomgaars’s artwork will be on display at the Sound Community Bank, and Danberg’s designes will be at Port Ludlow Art League Gallery. Both will be availble for online viewing at www.portludlowart.org. To make a sales appointment, email info@portludlowart.org.

The Gallery is located next to the Sound Community Bank at the corner of Oak Bay Road and Osprey Ridge Drive in Port Ludlow. The Port Ludlow Resort and Inn is located at 1 Heron Road off of Oak Bay Road in Port Ludlow.

This month members of the Port Ludlow Art League feature artwork motivated by scale.

Jewelry by Judy DanBerg is on display this month in Port Ludlow.
