Port Ludlow Art League hosts fair

PORT LUDLOW — The Port Ludlow Inn will host the outdoor Labor Day Art Fair sponsored by the Port Ludlow Art League from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.

Locla artists will sell jewelry, paintings, photographs, woodworking, ceramics, textiles, cards and baskets at the inn at 1 Heron Road in Port Ludlow.

For more information, see www.portludlowart.org.

The league’s artist of the month is Alice Thuring and jeweler of the month is Mara Mauch.

The work of both can be seen at Sound Community Bank and online at www.portludlowart.org. Mauch’s work also can be seen at the Port Ludlow Art Gallery. The bank and the gallery are located at the corner of Oak Bay Road and Osprey Ridge Drive in Port Ludlow.

On Sept. 13, a reception for Thuring is set from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the lobby of the bank, followed by one the galley from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Artist of the Month

Thuring works with pen and ink or palette knives and brushes with oil paint. Her latest art exhibit features her travels to Patagonia, the South Pacific and Iceland.

Thuring studied art history and painting at the University of Washington, Whitman College, and Boise State University. Her artwork has been showcased in art galleries in Washington and Idaho, including the Carnegie Art Center in Walla Walla.

Jeweler of Month

Mauch uses a kiln to fuse multiple layers of glass into cabochons that become necklaces, bracelets and earrings.

Recently, she has experimented with different glass cane millefiori pieces to create three-dimensional florals in her fused glass jewelry.

The gallery is open Wednesday through Saturday, noon to 4 p.m.
