Port Ludlow Art League highlights artists in October

Seven jewelers included in featured creators

PORT LUDLOW — The Port Ludlow Art League’s Artists of the Month for October are the Port Ludlow Art League Jewelers.

The league’s Jeweler of the Month is Mary Lynn Laker, who has designed necklaces, earrings and bracelets in a wide variety of styles and materials including silver, bronze, gems, felt, crystals and stones, organizers said.

Each year, the jewelry artists in the Port Ludlow Art League display their creations at the Port Ludlow Sound Community Bank and this year is no exception, organizers said.

“With the holidays fast approaching, if you see jewelry you’d like to purchase, either at the bank or online, simply make an appointment with the artist to either meet you at the bank or at the adjacent Port Ludlow Art Gallery,” organizers said in a press release.

Participating artists in the Port Ludlow Art League Jewelers show this year are Ginny Ford, Janice Gruber, Linda Henderson, Mara Mauch, Georganne Muse, Beth Olson, Pamela Raine and Sharon Zablotney.

Laker’s one-of-a-kind designs employ crows, fish, kimonos, hearts, Buddhas, circles and squares.

“If you see jewelry you’d like to purchase from Mary Lynn, simply make an appointment with her to meet you at the Port Ludlow Art Gallery next to the Sound Community Bank located at the corner of Oak Bay Road and Osprey Ridge Drive in Port Ludlow.

Also online is the Port Ludlow Art Leagues Shadows Group Art Show.

“When you think of shadows in the month of October, you might conjure creepy visages of ghosts and goblins. In art, however, shadows can set the mood or magically transform a two-dimensional object into a three-dimensional object,” organizers said in the release.

Shadows are made by blocking light.

“Because light rays travel from a source in straight lines, if a solid object gets in the way, it stops light rays from traveling through it. This results in an area of darkness appearing behind the object. If a translucent, colored object gets in the way, light rays pass through it casting a shadow similar to the color of the object,” organizers said.

Both types of shadows — form shadows and cast shadows — will be exhibited in the artwork on the website, with artists working in a variety of mediums.
