Port Ludlow Art League features artist, jeweler

PORT LUDLOW — Port Ludlow Art League has designated its artist and jeweler of the month for April and also is hosting a show of abstract art at the Bay Club.

Watercolorist Joan Astin is the league’s Artist of the Month for April.

Inspired by artists Fran Bodman and Di Maneval, Astin studied under Marti Mathis.

She said she was intimidated by watercolors at first but found “Marti to be an incredibly patient and encouraging teacher.”

“I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to show my artwork, one of the many joys of joining the Port Ludlow Art League,” Astin said.

The league’s Jeweler of the Month, Sheryl Goldsberry, has designed a collection in celebration of women who have shattered the glass ceiling.

Shattered Glass’ pendant necklaces and earrings in a variety of colors “serve as a statement and acknowledgement of achievement for all women,” according to a press release.

During April, the work of both can be seen at Sound Community Bank at the corner of Oak Bay Road and Osprey Ridge Drive in Port Ludlow and online at www.portludlowart.org.

Goldsberry’s jewelry also can be seen at the Port Ludlow Art Gallery, located next door to the bank and open from noon and 4 p.m. Thursday and Friday.

Those interested in buying artwork or jewelry are asked to email info@portluldowart.org to make a sales appointment.

In addition, 6-inch-by-6-inch plaques of original art are for sale at the league’s gallery in Port Ludlow.

Bay Club

During April, the league’s latest art exhibit can be viewed at the Bay Club, 120 Spinnaker Place.

“Sun Melt” by Ann Bernard will be among the abstracts on view at the Bay Club in April.

This exhibit features artwork by such local artists as Ann Bernard, Joanna Caro, Ann Gagnier, Joie Hyde, Georganne Muse, Carol Nielsen, Pamela Raine, Diane Walker and Patricia Webber.

The artists in the Abstract Art Critique Group meet weekly for on-going learning, peer feedback and focused discussion of each other’s work, and to challenge themselves and each other to explore new techniques, materials and approaches, the release said.
