PORT ANGELES — A short story by an author based in Port Angeles has been selected for the book “Chicken Soup for the Soul: The Joy of Christmas,” available now in bookstores and online.
The paperback, which includes “101 Holiday Tales of Inspiration, Love and Wonder,” was released Oct. 18, according to a news release. It retails for $14.95.
The short story “The Warning” was written and submitted by Louise Lenahan Wallace.
This is Wallace’s second short story in the series. “A Faded Card” was published in “Chicken Soup for the Single’s Soul” in 1999.
The bestselling “Chicken Soup for the Soul” series, which began more than 20 years ago, includes compilations of inspirational and motivational stories put together in various editions, according to www.chicken soup.com.
About 250 titles have been in published in 40 languages as part of the series, selling more than 100 million books in the U.S. alone, according to the website.
“The Warning” is a first-person account of the author’s apparent extrasensory perception, warning her to avoid certain events due to risk of life and limb. On one occasion described by the author, her sixth sense saves the life of her daughter.
“I certainly feel honored to have a second story included in the Chicken Soup series,” Wallace said via email.
“As my daughters can verify, it is, most definitely, a true story.”
The story is located in the “Holiday Miracles” section of the book.
Other sections include “The True Spirit of Christmas,” “The Perfect Gift,” “Holiday Memories” and “Holiday Traditions.”
Wallace earned a bachelor’s degree from Western Washington University while raising two daughters — now grown — in addition to working full time and pursuing a writing career, according to her website, daysofeternity.com.
Her efforts culminated in her first novel, “Longing of the Day,” published in 2000 by GRIT and Capper’s Fireside Library/Ogden Publications.
The sequel, “Day Star Rising,” also was published by GRIT and Cappers in 2001.
This was followed in 2007 by “Days of Eternity” and in 2010 by “Day Unto Day.”
In April 2012, Wallace received a first-place award in the Wyoming Writers Competition for her short story “Length of Days.”
In May 2012, she received a second-place award in the San Mateo County Fair Literary competition for her short story “Teacher of the Heart,” which is now included in their anthology “Carry the Light.”
