Port Angeles Symphony seeks musicians from across Peninsula

PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles Symphony is seeking new members.

The 70-member community orchestra is holding auditions this fall as it starts its 87th season.

To arrange an audition, musicians are encouraged to call the Port Angeles Symphony office at 360-457-5579 or email PASymphony@olypen.com.

The symphony includes players from Port Angeles, Port Townsend and Sequim, as well as from beyond Clallam and Jefferson counties.

The symphony especially has openings for strings and percussion, said Jonathan Pasternack, the orchestra’s conductor and music director.

He will lead the symphony in two Pops & Picnic concerts Sept. 27-28 at the Vern Burton Center, 308 E. Fourth St., in Port Angeles. Five main-stage symphony concerts and six chamber concerts are planned October through May.

A volunteer orchestra founded in 1932, the Port Angeles Symphony brings together a variety of players, from accomplished high school students to retired professionals.

These musicians play at the 1,144-seat Port Angeles High School Performing Arts Center, Vern Burton Community Center and Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Port Angeles, and at Trinity United Methodist Church in Sequim.

Singers also have an opportunity to make music with the symphony. Pasternack formed the Port Angeles Symphony Chorus three years ago and plans to hold auditions for it in October.
