PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles Library will celebrate a new Art in the Library exhibit tonight during its quarterly Art Blast! event.
Seattle quartet Kuinka will begin performing at 7 p.m., bringing what NPR Music has referred to as “joyous folk pop” into the heart of the library.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. at 2210 S. Peabody St., offering time to preview the art and mingle with Port Angeles artists John and Cricket Rickenbacher before the featured performance.
This exhibit will be on display at the Port Angeles Library through Jan. 23.
Refreshments will be served, and limited library services will be available during this free after-hours event.
Brothers Zach and Nathan Hamer, along with Miranda Zickler and Jillian Walker, came together in 2014 to form a unique breed of string band, one proudly defiant of preconceived notions of what fits under the label “Americana.”
The band’s 2014 debut, “The Wild North,” which propelled the band out of the woods and onto stages across the country, was followed by their 2016 breakout LP “The Heartland.”
Under its previous name, Rabbit Wilde, the band recorded both albums and performed at dozens of festivals and several successful national headlining tours.
This past spring, the band changed its name to Kuinka and released its latest EP, “Stay Up Late,” an homage to exploration and discovery.
“We’ve spent our time as a band in pursuit of a unique sound that captures our energy and essence,” Zickler said. “We’d love for our music to be a soundtrack to adventure. Our biggest goal as a collective is to fight the trend of apathy — to infuse everything we do with a sense of joy, and to effect positive change in the world to the best of our ability.”
