PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles Fine Arts Center will host an opening reception for “Sparks of Connection: In Celebration of Fem Fabrication” from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday.

The reception will be in the center’s Esther Webster Gallery, 1203 E. Lauridsen Blvd. in Port Angeles.

The exhibition highlights female artists who wield their creativity through welding and fabrication to inspire greater diversity within the trade.

Heather Dawn Sparks, the exhibit’s featured artist, works with metal blended with intricate paper cut-out designs.

“Something magical happens when two juxtaposing elements are combined cohesively, which Heather Dawn Sparks exemplifies with her integration of metal and paper,” said Stacey Rekkedahl, the exhibit curator.

Sparks will be joined by regional metal artists Nora Hughes, Sulai Lopez, Christine Mackenzie, Hailey Robinson and Karen Sixkiller.

“Together these artists make a striking exhibition that highlights the impact of incorporating the feminine perspective into a traditionally masculine medium, showing how a greater female presence can introduce fresh ideas and drive the industry forward,” Rekkedahl said.

“Sparks of Connection: In Celebration of Fem Fabrication” will be on display in the Esther Webster Gallery from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursdays through Sundays through Nov. 3.
