Port Angeles Fine Art Center to host opening reception

PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles Fine Art Center will host a reception for the opening of “Surf, Skate and Snow” from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday.

The free event will be in the center’s Esther Webster Gallery, 1203 E. Lauridsen Blvd., Port Angeles.

The exhibit explores the dynamic relationship between sport, design and harmony with nature.

Created in partnership with the North Olympic History Center and the Surfrider Foundation of the Olympic Peninsula, the exhibit showcases the work of Alex Silver, Darcie Gray, Todd Fischer, Mark Igloliorte, Veda Allen, Mike Croy, Gianna Andrews, Julianna Bernado, Xwalacktun Harry and Esther Webster.

“We are thrilled to host the work of talented artists who use innovative mixed media design and eco-friendly experimental techniques to develop functional and inspiring works of art,” said Christine Loewe, the center’s executive director.

On Friday, the Surfrider Foundation will host its International Surfing Day fundraiser from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the center.

The foundation’s mission is to promote beach access, clean water and environmental justice and stewardship across the North Olympic Peninsula.

Proceeds from the annual fundraiser will benefit the Olympic Peninsula Chapter to support beach cleanups, addressing access issues and the provision of SaniCans at popular recreation spots.

The fundraiser will feature live music, food and drinks for purchase, a silent auction, prize drawings and the exhibit’s killer art celebrating surfing, skateboarding and snowboarding.

Tickets are $18 at https://olympicpeninsula.surfrider.org or $25 at the door.

“Surf, Skate and Snow” will remain on exhibit in the Esther Webster Gallery at the Port Angeles Fine Arts Center from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursdays through Sundays until Sept. 7.
