Port Angeles Community Playhouse seeks volunteers for costume inventory

PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles Community Players are seeking volunteers to help complete a comprehensive inventory count in the costume department beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday.

“This will be the first inventory count of our 70 year old collection,” said Richard Stephens, chair of the group’s wardrobe department.

“I think we, the Players and the public will be very surprised at the actual size and value of our costume stock.”

The main push for the inventory will be form 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, with any final counting to be done during the afternoon weekdays.

“With over nine rooms packed floor to ceiling, we need as many counters as we can to go through every rack, every box and tub to get an accurate count of our inventory so we can do a proper valuation of our whole costume collection,” Stephens said.

“This will be a huge help to the Players and is a fun way for volunteers to see our extensive costume collection up close.”

Volunteers can drop in to help any time and can help as long as they like, he said.

A brief orientation is panned between 10 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Saturday and then the actual count will begin.

Light snacks and refreshments will be provided in the Green Room for volunteers to help keep their energy up.

“It is a great way to help the Playhouse and meet wonderful like minded volunteers,” Stephens said.

“It is not a terribly physical task, and work will done on both the ground floor and the second story. Kids over 10 are welcome with an adult. Bring a friend and make a fun afternoon adventure together.”

As the second oldest performing arts group in Port Angeles (after the Port Angeles Symphony) the costume collection of the Players has dressed 304 Main Stage Productions for the Playhouse, and this costume collection also supports local performing arts groups including Ballet Workshop, Peninsula College, Olympic Theatre Arts, Ghost Light Productions and the drama departments of Port Angeles and Sequim High School.
