Port Angeles Community Players create Neverland at fundraising gala

Guests to receive ‘the ultimate immersive experience’

PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles Community Players invite visitors to Neverland, based on J.M. Barrie’s “Peter Pan,” to explore the island where Lost Boys never grow up, be enchanted in the fairy cave and board the pirate ship Jolly Roger during the organization’s third annual fundraising gala Saturday.

The gala will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the theater at 1235 E. Lauridsen Blvd.

Tickets are $25 at pacommunityplayers.org.

“The theater has been transformed into Neverland, a place of dreams,” said Brian Wendt, vice-president of the Port Angeles Community Players (PACP).

“From the moment you walk in the door, you’ll be transported. It’s the ultimate immersive experience.”

Guests at the gala will be able to take a photo with a mermaid in the grotto, find hidden objects in the Lost Boys camp and dance with the fairies in their luminescent cave on the way to the theater’s stage, where the Jolly Roger awaits.

Events for the evening include a silent auction featuring over 35 items, including tickets to plays at the Community Playhouse, Olympic Theatre Arts and Village Theater, as well as Seattle’s 5th Avenue and Paramount Theaters.

It also includes baskets of items for a picnic, movie nights, exploring Olympic National Park, kitchen and cooking items, activities for kids, home decor and a lot more.

A live auction will feature packages with tickets to “Chicago” and “Evita” at Seattle’s 5th Avenue Theater, “Finding Neverland” (stage play) in Bellingham and six months of car washes at Race Street Car Wash.

Guests will be able to bid for the opportunity to play a pirate in the Players’ upcoming “Peter Pan and Wendy.” Food will be provided by Black Bird Coffee House and Smuggler’s Landing. A no-host bar will feature special pirate grog and fairy dust drinks for the evening.

The “Fund A Need” portion of the evening will focus on raising funds to replace some of the curtains that have worn out.

“What sets our fundraiser apart is the entertainment,” Wendt said.

“Not only have we set the scene throughout the theater, but also we’ll present scenes and songs from plays that celebrate the magic of theater.”

Added PACP President Janet Lucas: “We encourage our guests to get their ‘argh’ on, and come dressed as a pirate, mermaid or something fitting the theme.”
