PORT TOWNSEND — Poetry on the Salish Sea will present “East, West and In Between” at 7 p.m. Saturday.

The free reading will be at the Pope Marine Building, 530 Water St., Port Townsend.

The readers will include poets Sophie Cabot Black, Elise Paschen and Kathryn Hunt.

“Port Townsend has long been a vortex for American poetry, nurturing aspiring writers and celebrating the work of notable poets,” said Tree Swenson, the co-founder of Copper Canyon Press. “This town has hosted many readings and events at Centrum and numerous other venues for decades, and has also been home to a remarkable number of literary presses for a community of its size.”

Black, whose newest collection of poems, “Geometry of the Restless Herd,” was published by Copper Canyon Press, lives on a farm in Connecticut.

Black’s poems have appeared in The Atlantic, Bomb, The New Yorker, Granta, The Nation, The New Republic, The Paris Review, Poetry and Tin House.

Paschen, an enrolled member of the Osage Nation, lives in Chicago and is the co-founder of Poetry in Motion, a program that places poetry posters in the buses and trains of transit systems across the country.

Paschen, who holds a doctorate degree in philosophy from Oxford University, has written six books, including “Blood Wolf Moon,” her most recent. She teaches in the writing program at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago’s Master of Fine Arts program.

Hunt lives Port Townsend and is the founder and curator of the Poetry on the Salish Sea reading series. Hunt has written two poetry collections, “Long Way Through Ruin” and “Seed Wheel,” and recently completed “Nocturne,” a memoir.

“East, West and In Between” is co-sponsored by Poetry on the Salish Sea, Centrum and the Imprint Bookshop.
