PORT TOWNSEND — Jeff Plankenhorn, a world-class songwriter who recently moved to Vancouver Island from Texas, will perform this weekend at The Palindrome at Eaglemount Cidery.
The concert will be at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at 1893 S. Jacob Miller Road in Port Townsend.

Plankenhorn, a Blue Corn Music recording artist, had been an accompanist to the stars and first-call session musician in Texas (Joe Ely, Ruthie Foster, Ray Wylie Hubbard, etc.) for 16 years when he decided to go solo with his critically acclaimed SoulSlide album. It features performances by Ruthie Foster, Malford Milligan, Rami Jaffe (Foo Fighters, The Wallflowers),and The Resentments, with co-writes from Bret Dennen, Gary Nicholson and Miles Zuniga (Fastball).
He is a virtuoso multi-instrumentalist who designed his own signature lap-steel “The Plank” that gained him an Austin Music Award in 2017.
Born in Ohio and raised in Michigan, his musical travels began when his older brother gave him his first guitar at age 10. His musical journey led to Memphis and a chance meeting with Texas singer-songwriter Ray Wylie Hubbard, as well as to Plankenhorn’s 20-year sojourn in the Lone Star state.
Plankenhorn is a Black Fret major grant recipient in 2018 and recently released his second full-length album as a solo artist called Sleeping Dogs, featuring Hubbard and Patty Griffin and co-produced by Scrappy Jud Newcomb. He’s building his audience at festivals and venues all over Canada and the United States.
In 2016-17, he earned Album and Song of the Year nominations for his album, SoulSlide, and the single “Trouble Find Me.” Two of the album’s other standouts are “Bluer Skies” and You’ll Stay.”
These days, Plankenhorn finds himself on the road more than 150 days a year.
“I like the idea that people get uplifted at my shows; there are many ways to escape the hubbub of day-to-day living,” he said in a press release. “Dancing is one of the more noble and effective, better than any drug I’ve tried. I like the idea that everybody who walks in — I don’t care if you’re a biker or a drag queen — I want you there. Music is supposed to bring people together.”
