Photographers highlighted on Second Saturday Art Walk

PORT ANGELES — Photography will be featured at two venues during the Second Saturday Art Walk in Port Angeles this weekend.

Studio Bob will welcome renowned photographers Phil Tauran and Ernst-Ulrich Schafe with a reception for the two artists from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday at the studio upstairs at 118½ E. Front St.

For those unable to attend Saturday’s opening, Studio Bob will be open from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday. The show will be up through April.

Private viewings are available by appointment.

Born and raised in France, Phil Tauran is a professional photographer based in Sequim. Beginning as a painter, Tauran dove into photography, focusing specifically on black and white.

“The image is a means of truth and emotion, to capture and live the decisive moment,” he said in a press release. “It’s both a passion and a way to communicate.”

The images exhibited will be a reflection of his travels in France and on the Olympic Peninsula.

Born in Germany and raised in the United States, Ernst-Ulrich Schafer is a professional photographer in Port Angeles with a retail studio downtown.

Beginning his studies at Clark College in Vancouver, Wash., more than 40 years ago, Schafer was inspired to become an artist with his camera by his mentor, photographer Shedrich Williams.

Twenty years ago Schafer decided to start working in portraiture, finding portraits to be exciting and the subject of all of his personal black and white projects that he continues to work in to this day.

There will be a no-host bar serving beer and wine in The Loom during the opening.

Other venues offering special exhibits on Saturday are:

• Harbor Art Gallery, 114 N. Laurel St., will feature the work of Port Angeles photographer Eric Neurath.

Neurath, who graduated from Antioch College in 1976, has worked as a free-lance commercial photographer since 1979.

“My approach to photography has always been based on combining my creative vision based on a fine art photography background, and a collaborative service-oriented approach when working with clients,” he says on his website at www.eric neurathphotography.com/index.php.

Neurath will be on hand to talk to visitors from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. during Art Walk.

Harbor Art is also celebrating its first anniversary in the Laurel Street location.

• One of a Kind Art Gallery, 115 E. Railroad Ave., will showcase artists Annie Sumption and Jan Thatcher Adams beginning at 5 p.m. Saturday.

Sumpton has painted and taught painting and mission crafts at her church. Now soon to retire, she hopes to teach and paint at her leisure.

Adams is an author, artist and doctor. Her book “Football Wife” and her artwork will be available at the gallery Saturday.
