Peninsula weekend entertainment includes art, music, rocks, garage sales

Festivals, art exhibits, concerts and garage sales are planned all across the North Olympic Peninsula this weekend.

• Forever Twilight — Annual festival continues in Forks through Sunday with events both free and ticketed, drawing fans of the Twilight Saga books and movies from all over the world.

• Rock, Gem & Jewelry Show — The Clallam County Gem & Mineral Association’s Rock, Gem & Jewelry Show will be at Vern Burton Community Center, 308 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles, on Saturday and Sunday.

Admission will be free to the show conducted from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.

• Great Strait Sale — The 15th annual Great Strait Sale will offer a string of garage sales along state Highway 112 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

At least 10 individual sales are expected between the intersection of Highway 112 with U.S. 101 west of Port Angeles to Clallam Bay, according to Sandra Balch of the nonprofit Juan de Fuca Scenic Byway Association.

A community site will be east of the Depot Museum in Joyce. A Fall Flea Market sale is planned today and Saturday at the Crescent Grange in Joyce and on Saturday only at the Clallam Bay-Sekiu Lions Club at 90 Bogachiel St.

Fliers with event information are available at Laird’s Corner Market at the junction of U.S. Highway 101 and Highway 112, Joyce General Store bulletin board and at the Joyce community site the day of the sale.

• Empty Bowls Fundraiser — The Port Angeles Food Bank will offer four types of soup and keepsake bowls at its inaugural Empty Bowls Fundraiser at the food bank, 632 N. Oakbridge Drive, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday.

Guests will be invited to tour The Market for a first-hand look at how it will provide free groceries once it opens in mid-September.

Tickets are $25 for entry and soup, with accompaniments. A $35 ticket also comes with a ceramic soup bowl featuring The Market logo to take home. People also can enter to win raffle items from local businesses.

• Garden walk — The Clallam County Master Gardeners will host the Second Saturday Garden Walk in the Fifth Street Community Gardens, 328 E. Fifth St. in Port Angeles, from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Saturday.

Jan Barton, Audreen Williams, Bob Cain and Laurel Moulton will discuss vegetable gardens during the final garden walk of the year.

• Car show — The Kiwanis Club of Port Angeles will host a car show at the Clallam County Fairgrounds, 1608 W. 16th St., at 10 a.m. Saturday.

Admission is $3 per person with children 5 and younger admitted free.

Raffle and 50/50 drawings are set for 2 p.m.; winners must be present.

Participant entry is from 7 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.; day-of-show registration is $25.

Judging will begin at 10 a.m. and conclude by 1 p.m.; awards will be presented at 3 p.m.

• Fiddlers’ jam — District 15 of the Washington Old Time Fiddlers Association will host a jam session at the Sequim Prairie Grange, 290 Macleay Road, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

Performers with other acoustic instruments, such as guitars, bases, mandolins, autoharps, ukuleles, dulcimers and percussion instruments are welcome to attend.

The jam session is free. Donations to support the district’s scholarship program are welcome.

• Community Chorus — The Community Chorus of Port Townsend and East Jefferson County will launch its first official rehearsals in 2½ years on Sunday.

Registration starts at 6 p.m.; singing is from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 1111 Franklin St., Port Townsend. Registration is $35.

This will be the first official time singers have been together since March 2020, although some singers participated in practice sessions this summer.

All singers 16 and older are welcome and no auditions are required. Men are particularly encouraged to sign up. Experienced choral singers and novices alike are invited.

Practices continue on subsequent Sundays in preparation for November concerts.

• Sequim Elks — The Jimmy Hoffman Band will perform light rock and country music at the Sequim Elks Lodge, 143 Port Willams Road, from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Sunday.

Admission is $10 for members and $12 for guests.

• Palindrome Concert — Singer-songwriter Jeff Plankenhorn will play his invention “The Plank” and other stringed instruments during a concert at the Palindrome at Eaglemount Cidery, 1893 S. Jacob Miller Road in Port Townsend at 7:30 p.m. Sunday.

Tickets are $20 each from https://plank.brownpaper tickets.com or at the door.

Accordion social — Andy Mirkovich of Sammamish will be the featured player at an accordion social in the Shipley Center, 921 E. Hammond St. in Sequim, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.

Accordionists are invited to bring their instruments and play a song or two; the public is welcome to listen or to dance.

Recommended donation is $5 to defray room rental costs.
