Peninsula College offers a community welcome

Variety of activities set for Fall Spectacular

PORT ANGELES — Ride a zipline, attend an improv workshop, watch a welding demonstration or listen to the blues.

Not your thing?

How about a ride in a hot air balloon or trying your hand at esports?

You can do them all at the Peninsula College Fall Spectacular on Saturday when the Port Angeles campus, at 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd., will be filled with music, activities for children, hands-on classroom activities for adults, food and art from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event is free except for food and beverage purchases.

The Fall Spectacular is intended to introduce people who might not have visited the college, believed it did not have anything to offer them or felt welcome there with a fun, relaxed and family friendly “welcome.”

It’s a “welcome back” as well.

“We want to connect with folks of all ages in an immersive festival atmosphere,” said Peninsula College President Suzy Ames.

“We want kids on the Peninsula to grow up with fond memories of this event, and we want them to know the college is a place where they belong.”

Ames has made community engagement and getting the word out that the campus — including its library, ʔaʔk̓ʷustəƞáwt̓xʷ House of Learning and PUB Gallery of Art, among others — are open to the public among her top priorities since becoming the college’s seventh president in July.

In addition to the activities mentioned above, the Fall Spectacular will include face painting, a bounce house, a 32-foot-high climbing wall, Lower Elwha song and drum group, short presentations from Peninsula College instructors, a beading workshop led by Karen Sixkiller, a film and digital storytelling class and a tour of the medical assistant and nursing program lab.

Free parking is available in the college’s lot, but 7 Cedars Casino also will operate a free shuttle with a number of stops between Sequim and Port Angeles.

Clallam Transit’s regularly scheduled bus from The Gateway transit center to campus is also available.

A complete listing of the day’s activities, a campus map and the 7 Cedars Casino free shuttle schedule can be found at
