Peninsula College Jazz Ensemble to perform outdoors Monday

The free concert will be from noon to 1 p.m. at Peninsula College’s Port Angeles campus, 1502 E.Lauridsen Blvd.

PORT ANGELES — The Peninsula College Jazz Ensemble will perform in its annual Jazz on the Lawn concert Monday.

The free concert will be from noon to 1 p.m. at Peninsula College’s Port Angeles campus, 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd.

The show will take place on the terraced lawn just east of Keegan Hall. Guests are invited to bring a blanket or lawn chair for seating. The Pirate Cove Café will be closed, but the audience is encouraged to bring lunches.

Smoking-, alcohol-free

The concert will be free of smoking and alcohol.

The PC Jazz Ensemble features Robbin Eaves on vocals with an 11-piece jazz band.

Eaves will sing standards such as George Gershwin’s “I’ve Got a Crush on You,” Hoagy Carmichael’s “Lazy River/Lazybones” and Paul McCartney’s “Eleanor Rigby.”

The band also will feature music by Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock, Hank Mobley, Curtis Fuller, James Williams, Walter Davis Jr. and others, including the world premiere of a brand-new composition, “Tonic for Chronic,” by the band’s leader, David P. Jones, head of the college’s music department.

Performers in the band come from Port Angeles, Sequim, Joyce, Quilcene and Port Townsend.

From Port Angeles are Bob Bailey (alto sax), Kevin MacCartney (tenor sax and flute), Andy Geiger (tenor sax), Michael Ehr (trumpet/flugelhorn), Jordan Nicolas (trumpet/flugelhorn), Tor Brandes (drums) and Jones (director and keyboards).

Who’s who

From Sequim are Lorenzo Jones (baritone sax) and Dave Hinton (trumpet/flugelhorn).

John Adams (alto sax, soprano sax, &bass clarinet) lives in Port Townsend, John Sanders (bass) hails from Quilcene and Eaves lives in Joyce.

In inclement weather, the alternate venue will be inside the PUB.
