Peninsula College hosts student-led dramas

PORT ANGELES — Peninsula College’s drama production students have selected a pair of wild plays to stage for their student-led productions.

The Drama Class Spring Production includes two classes — Tech Theater Production students who design sets and lighting, and Acting 1 and 2 classes that serve the actors — and both classes vote on a selection of plays for the two most popular.

This spring, the plays include “Hot Sex America Zombie Weekend” and “A Dollar,” both set to run May 31 to June 2 and June 7-9 at 7:30 p.m. at the school’s Little Theater on the college campus, 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd.

Performances also include a preview at noon May 30 and a matinee at noon June 6.

Performances are free and open to the public.

Set in a comical environment, “Hot Sex America Zombie Weekend” — an original play by PC English Professor Michael Calvin Mills — is a lustful musical set in modern day New Orleans and follows a pair of FBI agents looking to bust a criminal scheme.

Their adventure includes an evil mastermind and her sidekick, and the FBI pairing two unlikely agents to stop civilians from getting swindled.

David Pinski’s “A Dollar” is set in the roaring ’20s and centers around group of lost travelers in the forest who don’t know which direction to follow.

The show illustrates how greed can take over one’s rational mind. Betrayal and a need for power are triggered when the entourage discovers something in the woods that that all of them want.

“My role in the tech class is helping to paint the set and working on the lighting design,” Zafirah Azmy, a student majoring in finance at Peninsula College said. “It’s all about teamwork, and your tasks can switch often since we are such a small tech team.”

Lara Starcevich instructs both courses. For more information about the productions, contact Starcevich at lstarcevich@pencol.edu or 360-417-6478.
