PORT TOWNSEND — Centrum’s and the Olympic Music Festival will present “Passions in Paris,” a concert of the music of Dubussy, Franck and Fauré at 2 p.m. Saturday.
The concert will be at the Wheeler Theater at Fort Worden State Park, 200 Battery Way.
Tickets are $40 and $33, available at www.brown papertickets.com/ profile/8256, by calling 360-385-9699 or via email to boxoffice@olympic musicfestival.org.
The concert is a performance of the 2019 Olympic Chamber Music fellows. They will play Debussy’s “Petite Suite for Piano Four Hands,” Franck’s Piano Quintet in F minor (1879) and Fauré’s Piano Quartet No. 2 in G minor, Op. 45.
The premiere of Franck’s explosive “Piano Quintet” was met with controversy when the older and more conservative French composers denounced it as provocative, organizers of this concert said, adding that in contrast, younger composers such as Fauré and Debussy were drawn to the music’s fiery expressive palette that drew parallels with Richard Wagner’s colossal operas.
Performing will be Kristin Lee, violin; Adelya Nartadjieva, violin; Dimitri Murrath, viola; SoHui Yun, viola; Sein Lee, cello; Matthew Zalkind, cello; Julio Elizalde, piano; and Chelsea Wang, piano.
No Discovery Pass is required to attend concerts at Wheeler Theater.
