Panel discussion to focus on art of ‘nerds’

PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles Fine Arts Center is gearing up for a new ArtBites panel discussion, featuring three local artists whose work appears in the current Obsessed: The Art of Nerd-dom exhibit.

The discussion will take place from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the Port Angeles Fine Arts Center, 1203 E. Lauridsen Blvd.

Tickets are $20 including gourmet fare and beverages, with proceeds to benefit the nonprofit art center. To reserve tickets, see PAFAC.org.

In addition to the panel discussion, everyone will have time to share questions and insights. All are welcome at this table, regardless of background or experience with art, organizers said.

Introduced last year, ArtBites is an intimate discussion series that pairs gourmet food and drink with candid dialogue about topics relating to the arts.

Friday’s event will explore how a “nerdy” obsession with original content — anything from classic literature to comic books — creates a potent catalyst for new creative expression.

The panel will be led by actor, storyteller and illustrator Ginny Holladay of Sequim, whose works in the exhibit include literary illustrations as well as concept art for a Dungeons and Dragons campaign.

Holladay will be joined by game designer and digital artist Caleb Koch of Port Angeles, who is with Cryogenic Entertainment, and by artist and illustrator Britney Robinson of Port Angeles.

“Obsessed: The Art of Nerd-dom,” which is co-hosted by the fine arts center and the Port Angeles Library, is on display at the Port Angeles Fine Arts Center and the Port Angeles Library at 2210 S. Peabody St., through March 15.

It was co-curated by Sarah Jane, fine arts center gallery and program director, and Holladay.

The exhibit is supported by the Port Angeles Friends of the Library, Anime Kat, D.A. Davidson, Camaraderie Cellars and the City of Port Angeles.
