Paintings, woodworking, glass, jewelry on Port Townsend Gallery Walk

PORT TOWNSEND — Paintings, woodworking, glass and jewelry will be on display during the Port Townsend Gallery Walk from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday.

The Port Townsend Gallery Walk is a free, self-guided tour of galleries in Port Townsend, held the first Saturday of each month.

Here is what’s planned at several venues.

• Gallery 9, 1012 Water St., will feature paintings by Linda Lundell and fine woodwork by Robin McKann.

Lundell is inspired by nature. Many of her oil paintings celebrate the trees and rainforest ecosystem of the Olympic Peninsula, said the gallery’s Meg Kaczk.

“I love to paint,” Lundell said. “I love the challenge to see something through until it works for me and is beautiful.”

Lundell earned a master’s degree from Rhode Island School of Design, and spent a year studying in Italy as part of that program.

In 2002, she was the recipient of a Centrum scholarship to study and paint in the Olympic Rainforest. Her work is shown in galleries and museums through the U.S.

In addition to her oil paintings, Lundell exhibits her cloisonné jewelry at Gallery 9.

McKann’s furniture, boxes and cutting boards are created from large variety of wood including spalted alder, figured maple, myrtle wood and other more exotic woods saved over the years.

All of McKann’s pieces are finished with many coats of hand-rubbed pure tung oil, Kaczk said.

“Over the past 18 years, I have been living my dream of creating functional pieces of art from sustainably harvested wood,” McKann said.

He received his training through building fine homes in the Los Angeles area.

Gallery 9 is open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day. For more information, see http://gallery-9.com/or call 360-379-8881.

Port Townsend Gallery, 715 Water St., will present artists Mike Biskup and David Kellum from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday.

Biskup, who lives in Port Townsend, comes from a family historically rich in artists, poets and dreamers, said Mitchel Osborne of Port Townsend Gallery.

“In his paintings, everything flows together,” Osborne said.

”He wants to subtly remind viewers that we humans, in all our diversity, are essentially interconnected, and with thoughtfulness, can function together harmoniously as well.

Biskup’s work can be found in the collection of Oscar-winning actress Patricia Arquette and others as well as at galleries in Port Townsend, Bainbridge Island and exhibitions around the U.S.

Kellum’s work revolves mostly around designing and building original pieces of furniture and useful objects for the home.

His career has been a long journey working with a medium, Osborne said, starting with building trades, then executive aircraft interiors and then on to original residential furnishings and accessories.

The Port Townsend Gallery is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

An art talk is planned at 1 p.m. Sunday.

In the Inner Gardens exhibit of mixed-media painting and glass sculptures, three Northwest artists explore the inspiration of the floral form.
