Second Saturday Art Walk to feature Susan Spar in one-woman show

PORT ANGELES — Studio Bob will welcome local artist-painter Susan Spar in a one-woman show, “Mixed Bag — Before the Change” during the Second Saturday Art Walk.

Studio Bob at 118 ½ E. Front St. is one of several galleries with special shows during the art walk from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday.

For those unable to attend Saturday’s opening, Studio Bob will be open on Sunday between noon and 3 p.m.

Susan Spar is a classical artist who is a graduate of Georgetown Atelier in Seattle and Fashion Institute of Technology in New York.

She will exhibit a large collection of her work. It will feature landscapes from the region as well as figure paintings and still lifes. About 20 pieces will be on display and available for sale.

“I’m in a state of flux right now,” Spar said in a press release. “My life is shifting, a common occurrence in artists of my age and I see this in my work as I struggle to make manifest some of the feelings and thoughts that have been rumbling around in my conscious and unconscious mind.

“The work in this show is not recent but reflective of more of where I have been in my work and just a hint of where I am going. What’s to come? I’m not sure but while the disequilibrium is uncomfortable, it’s also exciting. Change is always hard.”

Her work resides in permanent and private collections from the Millard Sheets Gallery in Pomona, Calif., to Hong Kong and Australia. Her work can be viewed online at www.susanspar.com and at Gallery 9 in Port Townsend.

A no-host bar will serve beer and wine in The Loom during the opening.

For information, contact Spar at 360-477-1024 or Bob Stokesonwer of Studio Bob, at 415-990-0457.

Other venues planning events this weekend are:

• Bar N9NE, 229 W. First St. will celebrate 10 years of art rock at 9 tonight.

It will feature Three Too Many and artist Jeff Tocher and Friends.

A $3 cover charge will help support the musicians and artists.

Three Too Many plays classic rock and modern rock. It features Sharon Thompson on vocals, Mike Maxwell on mouth harp and guitar, Jeff Clark on slide guitar, and the Anderson brothers laying down the rhythm section.

Artist Jeff Tocher will paint as the band plays in his trademark whimsical explosions of color and harmony.

Harbor Art Gallery, 114 N. Laurel St., which will feature the work of artist of the month Lance Snider.

Snider will be on hand to meet and talk with visitors form 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Saturday and on May 16 during gallery hours from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Snider has been obsessed with art for as long as he can remember, organizers said.

He grew up in Bellingham, split the next 15 years between Northern California and Utah, and moved back to the Pacific Northwest with his wife a year ago.

A nature lover, his art often includes his favorite animals — particularly pachyderms and cephalopods.

Although he dabbles in pretty much every medium, charcoal is his favorite, with pen; watercolor is a close second. He has also taken up wire sculpting lately.

The work of artist Lance Snider will be featured at Harbor Art Gallery during Second Saturday Art Walk.
