PORT ANGELES — The Paint the Peninsula art festival and competition continues today through Sunday with free, public events at and near the Port Angeles Fine Arts Center, 1203 E. Lauridsen Blvd.
Twenty-one artists have been out in the field this week — despite the smoky haze — painting places such as Second Beach, the Port Townsend boat haven, farms in the Dungeness Valley and waterfalls in Olympic National Park.
The results are on display at the fine arts center, where admission is free and everyone is invited to partake in voting for the People’s Choice award.
The center is open today from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.; the fresh paintings are for sale.
Those who can’t get there in person can see the art in the online shop at www.paintthepeninsula.org.
Today all of the artists will come into town and set up together on and around City Pier and the waterfront Esplanade.
In the annual Paint Out, they will start at 1 p.m. and finish their paintings by 4 p.m.
The Paint Out awards presentation will take place on City Pier soon after 4 p.m.
Saturday evening brings the Paint the Peninsula awards gala at the fine arts center.
Tickets are $15 to the event, which features appetizers, desserts and drinks — including Camaraderie Cellars wine — from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Cash prizes totaling $12,000 will be presented to winners in 14 categories.

Sunday, the festival’s last day, has the Petite Painting Sale at the fine arts center.
All of the artists will offer small works from their week on the Peninsula.
Admission is free while the art is for sale from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
From Sunday through Tuesday, Jacobsen will teach the 2018 plein air workshop, “Painting Northwest Color and Light.”
